Getting to Uist

There are two ferry routes from the Scottish mainland to Uist operated by Caladonian MacBrayne

Route 1 – Uig (Isle of Skye) to Lochmaddy (Isle of North Uist)

1hr 45mins ferry crossing the beautiful Minch. Once in Lochmaddy An Taigh Soilleir is approximately 40 mins drive through the Isle of North Uist and Benbecula.

Route 2 – Oban (Argyle & Bute) to Lochboisdale (Isle of South Uist)

This is a longer ferry journey at 5hrs 10mins through the Inner Hebrides across the north side of the Isle of Mull and over the Minch to the Isle of South Uist – please note sometimes this route goes to Barra before continuing to Lochboisdale which can add an extra 1hr 30 mins to the crossing. Once arriving in Lochboisdale An Taigh Soilleir is a 25 minute drive North through the Isle of South Uist.

By Air

The central island in the Southern Isles chain is Benbecula which is home to Balavanich Airport. The airport operates several flights a day with direct flights from Glasgow Airport. The route is operated by Fly Be. An Taigh Soilleir is a short 15 mins drive from Balavanich Airport.
